  • ABOUT US
  • The Escola Superior de Arte Dramática of Galicia (ESAD, Galician School of Dramatic Art) is an official school of Performing Arts run by the Department of Education of the Xunta de Galicia, the Autonomous Government. It first opened its doors in 2005 with courses in Acting and Stage Directing. In 2008 Dramaturgy was added to that list and then Scenography in 2009. Its integration in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) began in 2010 with the implementation of graduate degrees in Acting, Scenography and Directing and Dramaturgy. Furthermore, since 2009 ESAD has been working in partnership with the University of Vigo in the development of a Master Degree in Performing Arts.

  • OUR MISION
  • The purpose of ESAD, as a public learning centre, consists in providing specialized theatrical education in an artistic, humanistic and scientific dimension in a manner which is practical, technological and theoretical. Our courses are designed so as to make the student’s transition into working life a smooth one as well as actively encouraging a professional and personal behaviour of cooperation and respect towards their peers and surroundings.

  • OUR VISION
  • ESAD is an outstanding centre, recognised in its midst as one which contributes to the improvement of academic, artistic and professional abilities of those who work in Performing Arts. ESAD, with its image of prestige, has maintained a relationship of cooperation with society as a whole through companies, institutions, associations and other entities directly related to its daily activities, developing all the initiatives needed to reach its goals.

  • GOVERNACE
  • Through the years, ESAD has devoted itself to building the school’s academic and administrative structure according to legislation in force and the 2005-2009 strategy plan, which amongst other things, envisaged the development and adoption of educational and curricular projects in addition to internal regulations which have been in place since 2007. This institutional development process was completed by the incorporation of the Erasmus University Chart in December 2010, opening up interesting mobility possibilities for our students and teachers alike.

From the start the teachers of ESAD Galicia have taken part in numerous education training programmes summoned by the local education authority including working parties (2005, 2006) training projects in schools (2007, 2008) self-assessment and improvement projects (2007 and 2008) and Red G-6 (2007, 2008) a network of higher education schools created by the Department of Education and University Planning for the development of quality management projects. Accordingly ESAD Galicia has been working on the creation of an Internal Quality Assurance Service and will monitor the correct enforcement of the ISO 9000 and EFQM quality standards.

Our organisational structure consists of collegiate bodies which include the School Council, where there are representatives of the student body (7) the administration and services staff (1), the teaching staff (7), the City Council (1) and the Governing Body (4). The School Council establishes the school’s outline of operation which is specified in the Strategic Plan and in the Annual Plan. At the moment the Strategic Plan for 2009-2013 is in place. The Governing Body consists of Director, Deputy Director, Head of Studies and Secretariat.
